In downtown Washington, D.C., the little villager girl's death shook manicurist Lydia Schaefer. She too, was from Feres Mai,Adwa - Ethiopia. She had made that long desert trek for years, before an aunt brought her to the United States in 1979. "No more animal attacks!" Schaefer thought. She had to find a way to build her village a school. But how? Schaefer had massaged feet, clipped, and painted nails at a Washington salon for the past 15 years.
